Gang violence in El Salvador: Bryan's Story

A few weeks ago I was lucky enough to work as an assistant editor, for the very talented Glen Milner, on a short profile piece for Unicef as part of their Child in Danger campaign.

The profile concerns Bryan, 11, who lives in El Salvador - a country with the highest murder rate of children and adolescents in the world. Children are not only being killed and injured, they are also being pushed into crime by powerful gangs. Bryan's own experience of this comes via his brother who was in a gang, and sadly died six months ago from a drug overdose.

He remains conscientious to avoid the same fate befalling him, making for a powerful message from a child who shouldn't have to grow up in a climate of fear.
